Raworth’s energetic, layperson-friendly writing makes her concept accessible as well as intriguing." Klappentext

Remorseless financial crises. Extreme inequalities in wealth. Relentless pressure on the environment. Anyone can see that our economic system is broken. But can it be fixed? In Doughnut Economics, Oxford academic Kate Raworth identifies the seven critical ways in which mainstream economics has led us astray - from selling us the myth of 'rational economic man' to obsessing over growth at all costs - and offers instead an alternative roadmap for bringing humanity into a sweet spot that meets the needs of all within the means of the planet. Ambitious, radical and thoughtful, she offers a new, cutting-edge economic model fit for the challenges of the 21st century.

This compelling and readable book covers a lot of ground. It examines the purpose of our economic system, a necessary first step for any rethink. It decisively critiques mainstream economic analysis, including the assumptions and stereotypes which underpin neoclassical theory. And it sets out an agenda for a new "doughnut" economics, one which simultaneously respects planetary boundaries and caters for social needs. While much of the criticism is well established and covered elsewhere, new material includes the role of the nascent "collaborative commons", exemplified by the open source software and open knowledge movements.Given the need for a complex systems perspective by this re-envisioning of economics, a few pages on the role of computer simulation would have been warranted. Moreover, these new models will be no less caricatures of the real world than the present set of orthodox economics models, just better oriented to the issues we indeed face.In conclusion, an upbeat book that deserves to be widely read by anyone concerned about the transition to ecological and social sustainability, clearly the preeminent challenge of our time.

Ms Raworth claims that “Doughnut Economics” is the result of “25 years of learning, unlearning and relearning economics”. – She definitely succeeded in unlearning economics because she blames supply side only for all that’s bad on planet earth. She ridicules economists like Friedman, Hayek, Samuelson et al. but quotes Karl Marx and other utopians very favourably. – She cites Joseph Stiglitz’s remark “Study economics, but study it with scepticism and study it with a broader context” without heeding her own advice. Had she broadened her scope to psychology, human nature and logic “Doughnut Economics” would have turned out a completely different book. In its present state, albeit, it utterly lacks academic merit due to its one sidedness. – The shape of her “Doughnut”, though, is aptly chosen because it reveals what usually one expects to come out of a hole.

...described so well that even I as non economist can understand what exactly it is about. It's about stopping to see our world and it's economics as several islands with own rules each but as a whole. It has to work for all humans, not only for a few shareholders. It has to work for the whole planet, not only for a few privileged places. Economics of the 21st century is the end of "me first" but a way of thinking and hopefully developing a world of "we together". The doughnut is a picture for this.

Kate is penning an amazing read here. I started reading it at 6pm one eve, all the way to 4am one morning... That never happend before!!!Kate describes where Econ101 was, where it is and what it can be. It's like a 'brief history of humans interacting'. It has the potential to help bring Economics into the mainstream discussions, out from the academic ivory tower.

Tolles Buch um sich im Studium weiterzuentwickeln.Hab's mir aus reinem Interesse gekauft und bin positiv überrascht gewesen! Unbedingt weiterzuempfehlen.

A great overview of economics as it has been, where it is now and the potential of what it can be. Simple enough for anyone to understand with plenty of references to other sources.
